Free Lunch for Super Moms!

April 11, 2008

What is the Nashville Business Collaborative?
We’re a group of independent women business owners, with ventures ranging from pest control to party planning. Though our careers are diverse, we share a united purpose, which is to provide mutual support (because entrepreneurs can use all the encouragement they can get!), act as each other’s marketing team, and network to expand our sphere of influence. Most important to you, our goal is to improve our community as we build our businesses.

Where do Moms fit in?
We’ve discovered that mothers, particularly those who don’t work full time outside the home, are often passionate about issues and savvy in the marketplace, but they (you!) don’t always have opportunities to express those views and act on them. Our purpose in inviting you to have lunch with us and discuss what’s on your mind is two-fold:

  • to give you a chance to tell us about yourselves and your needs as mothers in the community, so that we can better serve you with our products and services
  • to brainstorm with you about ways that we might support you and other women like you on a non-business level

What’s the catch?

There is none. We will not be “hawking our wares” at this luncheon, and you are under no obligation to commit yourself to any future gatherings we might have. In this case, there really is such a thing as a free lunch! We would love for you to come, take advantage of professional child care, share a meal (that you don’t have to cook!), talk with other women with whom you have something in common and who may also expand your horizons, and share your concerns and needs as a mother in this community. If an official group or some other form of networking arises from the meeting, there will be no dotted line for you to sign on. So leave your checkbook at home and come to enjoy some responsibility–free time, our treat.

What are the details?

How can I prepare?
In order that we may make the best use of our time with you, we would appreciate your thinking about the following before the luncheon. No need to write out answers – as if you had time! Please know that no one is going to “call on you” as we discuss these questions. There will be no pressure to share – just do so as you feel comfortable.

1. What (if anything) is missing for you and/or your mom friends in these areas?
a. your personal growth
b. your relationships
c. your home
d. your children’s socialization
e. your family’s health
f. your awareness of issues, events, and concerns in the community that may affect your family
g. your involvement in your community

2.  Please rank the above in order of their importance to you (1 being the most important).

3. When you get together with other moms, what things come up regularly in the conversation?

4. How are you able to make informed, educated decisions?

5. How do you stay connected, or do you?

6. Do you do any volunteer work, or would you like to and have been unable to?

We look forward to pampering you. We know you deserve it!

Small Businesses Building Community…

March 27, 2008

Welcome to the Nashville Business Collaborative website.

Kacky Fell with Hatcher & Fell Photography was inspired to invite several local, small business owners together for lunch and to brainstorm how as business owners we could help each other. There was no real agenda set except- we’re all running the same race & facing the same obstacles in business ownership daily- how can we help each other? 24 business owners participated in the first luncheon in 2006. From that point on… the group trimmed to 5 solid members who were committed to helping each other. The original members are as follows: Erin Richardson, All-American Pest Control, Inc; Kim Milligan, Milligan & Milligan Garden Design; Lynne Berry, Children’s Book Author; Lisa Gray, MG Artworks & Susie’s Espresso; and Kacky Fell, Hatcher & Fell Photography.

Since our beginning, we have helped each other in many ways. Together we are a sounding board, a support group, a marketing team, focus group, event planners, referral sources, and cheerleaders! Within the last 6 months, we have welcomed 6 new members. These members include… Tricia Thornton, Creative Memories Custom Framing; Debby Savage, Realtor; Mridu Parikh, A Party Scene; Nancy Rue, Author; and Jill Dunlap, Massage Therapist.
